Those of you who have met me the past three years probably heard the story when you asked when I was getting a bike or why I didn't have one: "My kids are in college and I have to get my daughter through college before I can consider buying a bike, in the meantime I'm happy to be a checker or ride generously donated bikes".

Today I fulfilled that comment to many of you. Bob Poetzsch sold me his extra loaner 2016 Beta 200 that I'd been riding occasionally in 2019, most recently at Stu's Fall party up in Berwick at the end of last year.

By way of background and how I got here, I think it is important to recognize the generosity of NETA and Meriden club members.

  • I tried a cross-training event at Meriden that was taught by Charles Gray and Kerry (?), and that had me hooked. I borrowed a bike from Tom Bruno at Powerline when the original loaner wouldn't start.
  • I began hanging around the various events by volunteering to check and met some great people
  • At some point I hooked up with Bob Poetzsch after meeting online and he's been letting me tag along to the Meriden club and borrow his bikes for the past three seasons while I work the various events.
  • I did attend two Rhode Island schools, the first year (2018) where I fell and really twisted my ankle, and the second year I did much better though chickened out on a few sections but was happy to watch and ride my own pace plus the loop.

See you out there on the loop and in the sections.

Here are a couple of pictures, really terrible selfies in and out of a helmet. I'll make an effort to get better ones with me on the bike!

Welcome to NETA. You picked a hell of a time to join. 😀 On a good note though while all the other sports are on hold we're still in the woods riding. Socially distant except when somebody has to pick your bike up off of you.

It has been fun riding in the woods so far, getting ready for whatever "season" we have left. A nice soft introduction to more than just riding the loop and practicing sections. I'll be at the Meriden fun gate trial this weekend and then we'll see what events line up thereafter!
